What makes TV commercials so appealing?  What sort of promises do they tend to make?

READ IT:  1 John 2:12-17

Explore it

In verse 12, what group did John write to?  In verses 12-13, what do we learn about newborns-in-Christ?  Why is it important to know that your sins are forgiven?  Why do you think some Christians struggle to believe they are forgiven?


In verses 13-14, what does John say to "the young" in the Lord?  When does the phrase “the young” have nothing to do with chronological age?  


Why do you think having the Word of God in you is so important to your Spiritual growth?  How have you seen God’s Word giving you strength and helping you to grow?


What is the third group that John addresses in v13-14? What is the description of these spiritual parents in the Lord?  Do you know some seasoned saints who have an intimate knowledge of Christ and how has their faith influenced you?


READ 1 Thessalonians 2:6-12 about the ministry of a spiritual father and mother.  How would you describe the attitudes and values of this type of mature believer?


READ 1 John 2:15-17 again.  What does John mean by “the world”?  In verse 15, what restrictions should we place on our affections?  What is the result of loving the world?  In verse 16, what way are you tempted to love the things of this world?  In verse 17, who lives forever?


APPLY IT

What specific steps will you take to find satisfaction in your relationship with God rather than in the things of the world?


How will you do the will of God today/tomorrow?
