SERMON NOTES:  
Big Idea:  Today, we begin a new series based on 1 John... an important book of the Bible that helps you to discern the genuine from the fake when it comes to your spiritual life.  Today, we look at 3 deep longings at every human heart which can only be met through a genuine relationship with Jesus & God's Family.  The end result is Joy... a real & lasting Joy.

Intro:  The Life of the Apostle John

LIFE GROUP QUESTIONS & STUDY GUYDE FOR THE WEEK OF 4.16.23--4.22.23:

Open It:

Who is a person that you know who changed as a result of coming to Christ?  

How would you describe the change God made in their life?

Explore It:

Read 1 John 1:1-4

What was from the beginning? 

Why do you think John stressed his first-hand knowledge of Christ and what took place in his life?

How important are first-hand eyewitness testimonies such as John to your belief in Christ?

In verse 2, what did John proclaim to them?

Who taught you about the Joy of eternal life?

Read Mark 3:17.  Jesus gave John and James the name "sons of thunder".  What aspects of their character caused Jesus to give them that nickname?

As you read 1 John, you will see John become a very loving person.  Over time, through his relationship with Jesus, God changed him.

How has God changed you?  

What behaviors, 

What behaviors, beliefs and values are different?  

What area is God working on right now and how does this bring you Joy?

Apply It:  

In verse 3, with whom did they have fellowship?

How would you describe your fellowship with God?

What are ways you can go deeper with Christ?

How can your group encourage eachother to be spending daily time with Jesus?

How can your LifeGroup build deeper friendships?
